Trucker Convoys Heading to DC for State of the Union

Summary from the AllSides News Team

U.S. trucker convoys are heading to the Washington, D.C. Beltway, with some of them arriving ahead of President Joe Biden's State of the Union address next Tuesday.

The Pentagon has approved the deployment of D.C. National Guard to handle traffic control. "The People's Convoy" and "Freedom Convoy USA 2022" are protesting COVID-19 rules and requirements; vaccine mandates have ended in many local and state jurisdictions, but continue for some industries. The truckers seek to replicate the "Freedom Convoy", which traveled to the Canadian capital of Ottawa from Western Canada, leading vehicles and protesters to take over downtown Ottawa for three weeks.  The American Truckers Freedom Fund is another convoy that plans to come to D.C. soon.

Some left- and center-rated outlets framed the convoys as small and unremarkable; right-rated sources framed the convoys as more meaningful and focused on protesters' gripes with vaccine mandates.
