Fox Business Rated Lean Right in July 2022 Small Group Editorial Review

A July 2022 Small Group Editorial Review by AllSides panelists on the left, center, and right returned a Lean Right rating for Fox Business. The panel found some Lean Right bias indicators in Fox Business, such as some sensationalism and stories framing President Joe Biden negatively; many stories were found to be Center, however.

Fox Business, which is owned by Fox News, focuses more on business, markets and financial stories.

AllSides panelists noted content framing President Biden’s economic policies negatively, such as a headline reading, “Biden admin misses major oil lease deadline: 'an absolute disgrace,'"  and, “The Biden administration is continuing its renewable energy push while Americans face record-high prices at the gas pump.” Much of the business news coverage employed negativity bias in its characterization of the Biden administration’s economic policies in relation to topics like the GDP and inflation. An opinion article praised Trump-era economic policies while criticizing President Biden’s.

Reviewers also observed right-leaning story choice, such as an article highlighting voices critical of Biden’s efforts to push renewable energy; meanwhile, other articles were more Center, such as one that reported on left-leaning voices critical of the Supreme Court’s EPA decision; it reported on the left’s comments without employing bias. Similarly, the news outlet gave a balanced, neutral report of Democrat Pete Buttigieg’s Reconnecting Communities pilot.
