The CDC data published last month shows that in Minnesota, 176 people died of causes that were 100 percent alcohol-attributable in 2021-22. Of those, 134 were male and 43 were female. Nationwide, about 488 people a day died due to excessive alcohol consumption during 2020-21, the CDC said. That represented a more than 29 percent increase in excessive alcohol use since 2016-17.
