Guardians manager Terry Francona taken to hospital with illness; misses Tuesday’s game

KANSAS CITY -- Guardians manager Terry Francona was taken to the hospital for tests before Tuesday night’s game against Kansas City. Bench coach DeMarlo Hale will manage the club in Francona’s absence. Francona, 64, was joking with reporters in his usual pre-game press conference. But about 20 minutes before game, he complained of not feeling well. He was examined by stadium personnel and “out of an abundance of caution” taken to Kansas State University Health Services for further testing. This is Francona’s 11th year as Guardians manager.
