SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) — The Rhode Island Football Club made their debut on Saturday evening, coming to a tie against New Mexico United. Thousands of fans headed out to sold-out Beirne Stadium Stadium in Smithfield, to watch the team play its first USL Championship Match. Governor Dan McKee, Pawtucket Mayor Don Grebien and Bryant University President Ross Gittell were joined by Rhode Island FC Chairman Brett Johnson to conduct the ceremonial coin toss.
