Rhode Island teen seriously injured in Route 9 crash in Essex, CT police say

ESSEX — A 16-year-old boy from Rhode Island was seriously injured in a Route 9 crash Saturday evening, Connecticut State Police said.
The 16-year-old was traveling in a 2013 Honda Civic northbound on Route 9 when he drifted off the left lane, according to police. Police said the teen then entered the dirt shoulder and hit a tree in the median head-on.
Police said the teen was airlifted to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment. The crash is under investigation, state police said.
