Trump-Backed Republican Dan Cox Wins Maryland Gubernatorial Primary

Dan Cox, a conservative state legislator endorsed by former President Donald Trump, won the Republican gubernatorial nomination in Maryland on Tuesday over former state Commerce Secretary Kelly Schulz, the Associated Press projected.

The primary election outcome sets up what political analysts predict will be an uphill battle for Mr. Cox in the November general election, given that registered Democrats outnumber Republicans 2 to 1 in Maryland and that President Biden defeated Mr. Trump 65% to 32% in 2020.
