What a "Center" Rating Means

Sources with an AllSides Media Bias Rating of Center either do not show much predictable media bias, display a balance of articles with left and right biases, or equally balance left and right perspectives.

Center doesn't mean better! A Center media bias rating does not necessarily mean a source is totally unbiased, neutral, perfectly reasonable, or credible,just as Left and Right don't necessarily mean extreme, wrong, unreasonable, or not credible. AllSides encourages people to read outlets across the political spectrum.

Voice of America Rated Center in July 2024 BBS

Voice of America's AllSides Media Bias Rating™ was confirmed as Center in our July 2024 Blind Bias Survey. 

Respondents who rated their own bias as Left, Lean Left, Center, Lean Right, or Right, all rated Voice of America as Center, on average. Republicans, Democrats, and Independents rated Voice of America as Center.

A total of 618 people across the political spectrum took the survey. Each survey participant was asked to self-report their personal political bias – 45 participants with a self-reported Left bias; 158 with a Lean Left bias; 184 with a Center bias; 178 with a Lean Right bias, and 53 with a Right bias took the survey.

Confidence Level

Confidence is determined by how many reviews have been applied and consistency of data.

As of June 2026, AllSides has medium confidence in our Center rating for Voice of America (VOA). An Editorial Review or Blind Bias Survey has affirmed this rating, or multiple reviews have returned differing results. If we perform more bias reviews and gather consistent data, this confidence level will increase.
