Previewing Tuesday's 2022 Primaries in 5 States

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Voters will head to the polls in Arizona, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri and Washington state Tuesday to vote in their 2022 midterm election primaries.

In Arizona, Republicans Kari Lake and Karrin Taylor Robson are vying for the party's gubernatorial nomination. Lake is backed by former President Donald Trump; Taylor Robson has the support of former Vice President Mike Pence. In Michigan, anti-Trump GOP Rep. Peter Meijer is criticizing Democrats for meddling in his primary and trying to boost his Trump-backed opponent. And in Missouri, Trump sewed confusion by endorsing "Eric" for Senate in a Republican primary race that features three Eric's — Former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens, State Attorney General Eric Schmitt, and author Eric McElroy.

In Kansas, Trump-backed Attorney General Derek Schmidt is expected to win the Republican gubernatorial primary to challenge vulnerable incumbent Democratic Governor Laura Kelly in a red state, and voters will also decide whether to remove abortion protections from the state constitution. And in Washington state, longtime GOP Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, one of the 10 Republicans along with Meijer to vote for Trump's impeachment in 2021, faces a primary challenge from Trump-backed former Green Beret officer Joe Kent.

Various primary election storylines have been covered across the political spectrum. Many outlets focused on Trump's confusing endorsement Tuesday morning.
