Pfizer Says its COVID-19 Vaccine is Safe, Effective for Kids Ages 5-11

Summary from the AllSides News Team

On Monday, Pfizer said its COVID-19 vaccine is safe and effective for children ages 5 to 11 and that it will soon seek full approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

In Pfzier's clinical trials, it says a much lower dose was tested on children ages 5 to 11, and after the second dose, recipients developed antibody levels to fight the coronavirus that were just as strong as teenagers and young adults.  The findings come as children return to school amid the spread of the contagious Delta variant, which had resulted in nearly 500,000 child COVID-19 cases between Aug. 26 and Sept. 9, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. Children remain highly unlikely to die from COVID-19.
