Perspectives: Dr. Fauci’s Emails
Summary from the AllSides News Team
NIAID Director Dr. Anthony Fauci became the focus of media attention again on Tuesday after The Washington Post and BuzzFeed News published thousands of pages of his emails, obtained through the Freedom of Information Act. The Washington Post obtained 866 pages from March and April 2020, and BuzzFeed News obtained 3,234 pages from January to June 2020. In one email, Fauci said he received “over 1000 e-mails per day and even with staff screening, I do not see them for days." On Thursday, Fauci addressed the coverage of his emails, saying, “The only trouble is they are really ripe to be taken out of context where someone can snip out a sentence in an email without showing the other emails and say, ‘based on an email from Dr. Fauci, he said such-and-such,’ where you don’t really have the full context.”
Voices in right-rated outlets tended to accuse Fauci of “flip-flopping” or covering up evidence, and focused on emails regarding the COVID-19 lab leak theory. Voices in left-rated outlets tended to defend Fauci and point to the reported tensions between Fauci and the Trump administration.

No, emails to Dr. Anthony Fauci don’t show early agreement that virus was human-madeThe release of thousands of emails to and from U.S. infectious disease chief Dr. Anthony Fauci has fueled claims that the virus behind COVID-19 was man-made. BuzzFeed and The Washington Post received the emails in response to a Freedom of Information Act request, and both published articles on June 1.
Fauci’s critics quickly responded.
“Dr Fauci exposed for the fraud he is,” said a June 2 Facebook post from the WTF Files. “Fauci’s fellow scientist could tell early on that the (coronavirus) looked manufactured.”

Anthony Fauci’s Emails Reveal The Pressure That Fell On One ManThe woman’s email arrived in Anthony Fauci’s inbox on Feb. 28, 2020, with a one-word subject line: “URGENT.”
The coronavirus crisis was still in its early stages, and Fauci, the US government’s top infectious disease scientist, was already under tremendous pressure, both because of the health threat facing the country and the political climate fostered by the Trump administration.
“I understand Vice President Pence has ordered you to not inform the public about Coronavirus without approval. This is quite terrifying, especially since Trump has already shown his desire to spread...

Fauci emails all the more reason for US to get to bottom of COVID originsSo Dr. Anthony Fauci in the pandemic’s early months was casting doubt on the lab-leak theory of COVID’s origins — even as he was also receiving at least one alert from a genomic researcher that “some of the features look (potentially) engineered.”
Notably, he forwarded “anti-conspiracy theory” articles that quoted Peter Daszak — the head of a US nonprofit that used some grant money from Fauci’s agency to fund coronavirus work at the Wuhan Institute of Virology — attacking the lab-leak idea. Daszak and others wrote Fauci personally to thank him for...
