At Portland Public Schools, the PSAT is out; parents wonder about consequences

In 2023, five stand-out seniors from Portland Public Schools were named top tier National Merit Scholarship winners, netting them $2,500 apiece and placing them among the ranks of the nation’s most elite scholars. It was the second highest total number of scholarship winners of any Oregon district, trailing only Beaverton, out of 28 winners statewide.
