State health officials announce likely cause of first human plague infection in 8 years
DESCHUTES COUNTY, Ore. (WKRC) - One state recently reported its first human case of the bubonic plague in roughly eight years. Deschutes County Health Services in Oregon believe the person contracted it from a pet cat. Health officer Dr. Richard Fawcett says the cat was "very sick" and had an abscess that was draining. He also announced that its owner's infection had reached the bloodstream by the time the person got to the hospital.
