NC Highway trooper-involved shooting on I-26 near Asheville leaves suspect dead

ASHEVILLE - A North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper who pulled over to help a stranded motorist on Interstate 26 westbound near Asheville July 3, was shot and returned fire, killing the suspect, according to a news release from N.C. Department of Public Safety. The motorist, identified as Wesley Taylor, 57, of Leicester, produced a firearm and fired, striking Trooper Jeffrey L. Dunlap in the chest, the release said.
