Scabies Outbreak Reported at Utah Prison

An outbreak of scabies has forced dozens of prisoners in Utah into quarantine. The skin condition, caused by parasitic mites crawling into a person’s skin and laying eggs, has been detected in at least 57 people in the Green Unit of the Utah State Correctional Facility, in Salt Lake City. Glen Mills, communications director for the state’s Department of Corrections, told local news that the mites may have spread through laundry.
