South Dakota Gov. Signs Trans Youth Health Care Ban, Tennessee Advances It's Own

South Dakota has passed a ban on gender-affirming healthcare for youth into law, becoming the fourth U.S. state to do so, and the second state this year. The same day, Tennessee’s legislature passed a similar anti-trans healthcare bill. As expected, Republican Governor Kristi Noem signed HB 1080 into law on Monday. The law bans the prescription of puberty blockers and hormone replacement therapy for minors, as well as banning “sterilizing surgery,” other genital surgeries, and the removal of “any healthy or non-diseased body part or tissue.” Providers who violate the...
