Mosquito sample collected in Houston tests positive for West Nile

A mosquito sample collected by Harris County Public Health has tested positive for the West Nile virus, according to a social media post by the department. As a proactive measure, the department will be treating, in the evening, the areas where the positive sample was found and the surrounding area. Mosquitos hang around Houston all year, but they are most active from May to October, increasing the chances of mosquito-borne diseases, according to a news release from Harris County Public Health.
