As the region looked up at the solar eclipse on Monday, some in New Jersey felt the ground shake from below. A magnitude 1.3 earthquake centered 4 kilometers west of Bedminster, N.J., took place at 3:42 p.m. on Monday, just minutes after the peak of the solar eclipse visible in the region, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
