Nickolas Herrera, a former guard at the federal prison in Sheridan who accepted bribes to smuggle in marijuana, phones, cigarettes and designer sneakers, is headed back to prison -- this time as an inmate. U.S. District Judge Michael W. Mosman on Monday sentenced Herrera to a year and three months in federal prison. He rejected a plea by Herrera’s lawyer to issue a probationary sentence, but reduced the time recommended by prosecutor Ethan Knight by six months.
