Houthi militiamen have taken over the presidential palace in Yemen’s capital, Interior Ministry officials said on Tuesday, causing panic as fighting spread across San’a and residents emptied the streets and stocked up on food and other supplies.
The Houthis’ seizure of the presidential palace followed the capture less than an hour earlier of the nearby headquarters of the 5,000-strong 3rd Brigade, which serves as Yemen’s presidential guard.
