Republicans Vote Against Debt Limit Bill That Would Pay For Budget They Supported
A large number of House Republicans voted against raising the nation's borrowing cap Tuesday, even though they supported a budget in December that required a debt ceiling increase.
A total of 201 lawmakers cast votes against allowing the U.S. Treasury Department to borrow more money to pay for the bills that Congress appropriated. Of those, 139 had previously voted for the budget bill authored by Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) that set spending levels at $1.012 trillion in 2014 and $1.014 trillion in 2015.
