The former Riegelsville Delaware Bridge Company officially suspended toll collections on January 1, 1923 due to an impending sale of the bridge to the states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The states formally purchased the bridge three days later. The sale price was $50,000, with each state providing matching $25,000 checks to complete the transaction, according to the bridge's current owner, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission.
