Vega, who lost a close 2022 campaign for Congress to Democrat Abigail Spanberger, came under fire early in her campaign for appearing to suggest that impregnation might be less likely as a result of rape. Vega later said Democrats had mischaracterized her comments and that she had not asserted that women cannot get pregnant as a result of rape.
