An attorney for the state is asking a judge not to include the governor and the attorney general in a lawsuit involving the state’s failure to provide lawyers to poor Mainers. Last week the ACLU of Maine filed an amended complaint against the state of Maine and various state leaders, accusing them of failing to uphold federal and state laws that demand that the state provide attorneys for criminal defendants who can’t afford their own.
