Pope Francis appoints new bishop for Catholic Diocese of Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, MI – Pope Francis has appointed Monsignor Edward M. Lohse as the fifth bishop for the Catholic Diocese of Kalamazoo, replacing retiring Bishop Paul J. Bradley. Bradley, 77, submitted his resignation, as required by church law, when he turned 75. The diocese announced Tuesday, May 23, that Pope Francis has accepted his resignation and appointed Lohse as his replacement. The diocese covers nine counties: Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph and Van Buren. Nearly 80,000 Catholics are part of the diocese.
