A round-the-clock Senate brawl over nominations paused Friday, as senators decided to take a break rather than fight through a weekend filled with holiday season parties.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) reached an agreement Friday that ended the prospect of senators being required to stay in Washington for votes and procedural maneuvering throughout the weekend.
