JACKSON, MI – Jackson-based Consumers Energy will be installing iron utility poles in parts of Michigan to help withstand increasingly severe storms, which have caused disruptive outages across the state.
Around 1,200 iron utility poles will be installed later this year in the Kalamazoo, Greenville, and Tawas areas. The iron poles are built stronger and lighter and are meant to last longer than their wooden counterparts, Consumers Energy officials said.
