House Rejects Temporary Government Funding Bill, Increasing Chances of Shutdown

Republican leaders suffered a defeat on Friday when the House voted against a partisan bill to tie a month of government funding to strict border security policies, leaving them without a plan to prevent a Sunday shutdown.
Unless House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., coalesces his rebellious right flank around a plan B — or reaches across the aisle to ask Democrats for help — the government will definitely shut down in less than two days.
He is planning to meet with the GOP Conference Friday afternoon to discuss next steps....
