Evangelical Coalition Calls for Immigration Reform

A diverse group of 140 evangelicals gathered in the nation's capital this week to renew calls for immigration reform.

In a statement called the "Evangelical Statement of Principles for Immigration Reform," The Southern Baptist Convention, Focus on the Family, Sojourners, and the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference asked Congress to craft legislation that is tough but compassionate.

They say the law should make it harder for people to enter the country illegally while giving illegal immigrants living in the United States a path to citizenship.
