Jan. 6 Panel Reportedly Finds ‘Gaps’ in Trump White House Phone Records
Summary from the AllSides News Team
On Thursday, the New York Times (Lean Left) reported that investigators for the House Jan. 6 committee had found gaps in official White House phone logs from the day of the Capitol riot.
While the investigators reportedly found only a few calls by former President Donald Trump during “critical hours” when they knew he was making them, they had not found evidence that the logs had been tampered with. Furthermore, the Times report added that Trump had a “well known” habit of using his personal cell phone and those of his aides. The report cited two anonymous sources, and CNN (Left), NBC News (Lean Left) and ABC News (Lean Left) each independently confirmed the story. Additionally, multiple outlets reported Thursday on a book by one of the Times report’s authors, Maggie Haberman. In the book, Haberman writes that during Trump’s presidency, White House staff occasionally found wads of printed paper clogging a toilet and believed Trump had flushed them. Trump denied the toilet-flushing story in a Thursday statement.
As of Thursday afternoon, AllSides could find no coverage from right-rated outlets on the Times report; coverage of the story was featured prominently in major left-rated outlets. Coverage of Haberman’s book was also prominent in left and center-rated outlets, and several right-rated outlets reported on Trump's denial of the toilet-flushing story.
