Charleston police investigating SC death of Boeing retiree turned whistleblower

Charleston authorities are investigating the death of a retired Boeing Co. quality manager who had publicly raised safety concerns about the aerospace giant, including at its 787 plant in North Charleston. John Barnett, 62, of Louisiana, died March 9 at an unspecified time and location in Charleston from "what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound," the Charleston County Coroner's Office said late March 11.
