BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - We’re hearing from state leaders following Alabama’s first execution using nitrogen hypoxia. They say it could set a new precedent for not only Alabama’s death row inmates, but for others across the country. While many have protested Thursday’s execution, Attorney General Steve Marshall is defending the method, and looking to the future. The Alabama Department of Corrections says Kenneth Smith’s execution went according to plan, with Marshall at a press conference Friday describing the first-of-it’s-kind execution as ‘textbook”.
