‘I’m Not Cutting Any Deals’: Rep. Scalise on Efforts to Gather Support to Become House Speaker

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) spoke to reporters on Thursday about his efforts to gain enough support to become the next speaker of the House. “The good news is, our support continues to grow, we’re continuing to work to narrow the gap,” he said. Mr. Scalise defeated House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) 113–98 in a nomination vote on Wednesday, and he needs to win 217 votes in a floor vote to become speaker.
