Senators Seek ‘Living Wage’ for Capitol Hill Contractors
A group of senators is calling for higher wages and better health care for the contractors who work in Senate office buildings.
Private companies receive contracts to provide many of the services for government buildings on Capitol Hill, from running the cafeterias to cleaning offices to restoring aging buildings.
In a letter to the chairman of the Senate Rules Committee, the group asked that the panel give preference to contractors “that provide a living wage, fair healthcare and other benefits and that give employees a voice in their workplace.”
