January 6 Committee Votes to Hold Steve Bannon in Contempt

Summary from the AllSides News Team

On Tuesday evening, the House Committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot voted 9-0 to recommend criminal contempt charges for Steve Bannon. The former top advisor to President Donald Trump has refused to cooperate with the investigation, and is defying a congressional subpoena. The panel says that Bannon has no legal authority to support his refusal to comply, and that he may had specific knowledge about the events of Jan. 6 before they occurred.  Bannon's lawyers are testing the extent to which executive privilege, as claimed by Trump, can apply to advice or conversations from private citizens. The full House of Representatives will vote on this recommendation on Thursday.

The news was covered prominently across the spectrum Wednesday.
