S.F.’s OpenAI is reportedly under investigation by the FTC

San Francisco’s OpenAI, maker of the ChatGPT chatbot, is reportedly under investigation by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. The Washington Post first reported the investigation. A letter, made public by The Post, that was sent to the company outlines concerns the federal regulator has with the safety threats posed by the company’s chatbots, and whether the company “has engaged in unfair and deceptive privacy or data security practices” among other concerns.
