Florida was once the perennial swing state. 2022 may prove how red it has become
Four years ago, Republicans and Democrats in Florida were similarly optimistic about their chances of winning the governor's mansion and a toss-up race for a US Senate seat during the 2018 midterms. The results of those races -- razor-thin victories for Republicans in both contests -- devastated Democrats but nevertheless seemed to reenforce Florida's status as a purple state.
But as

The Election Process Continues
We’ve been getting some feedback about our decision to step back from our regular coverage this week, so we want to briefly explain our reasoning. We’re curators, not reporters; we don’t report on breaking news. As of now the votes are still being counted; there’s no value-add in us simply repeating the numbers.
As the votes come in, projections are being made both by TV networks and

What 8,000 Prisoners Think About American Politics
Aseemingly simple question at a Bernie Sanders town hall last spring set off a debate new to prime time: Should prisoners be allowed to vote? Sanders said yes—his home state of Vermont as well as Maine are the only states to give all prisoners that right. Later, Joe Biden said no.
Yet in a country awash in political polling, the views of those who are most affected remained a mystery:

Fix the Electoral College — Or Scrap It
If you were looking for the perfect distillation of how dysfunctional the American system of electing the president is, it would be hard to top last week’s federal appeals court ruling allowing “electors” — the members of the Electoral College — to vote for whomever they want, rather than the candidate they were pledged to support.
“Wait,” you might say, “someone I’ve never even heard

We Need to Talk About the GOP’s ‘Black Friends’
In between the lies and the fearmongering and the stories about having intimate conversations with Jesus that somehow don’t include healing the sick or helping the needy, the goal of the 2020 Republican National Infomercial has been pretty obvious. Republicans are doing everything they can to give white people “permission” to vote for a white nationalist bigot, Donald Trump.
