• This weekend the XFL, a winter and spring professional football league owned by WWE CEO Vince McMahon, debuted on ABC.
• The new XFL is a successor to the original XFL, also controlled by McMahon, which ran for one season in 2001 and suffered from poor attendance and television ratings. 
• The league will follow a similar structure as the original XFL, with eight teams competing in a ten-game season and a two-week postseason.
• The XFL markets itself as a much faster version of the NFL, with games lasting less than 3 hours. To accomplish this it changed several NFL rules, including adding a continuous game clock, eliminating extra points after touchdowns, allowing multiple forward passes per play, and replacing overtime with a soccer-style shootout.
