Badar Khan Suri, the Georgetown University researcher arrested in March by masked Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents outside his Arlington, Virginia, home, can remain free while he fights his deportation, a federal appeals court panel ruled Tuesday.

By a vote of 2-1, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals panel turned down the Trump administration’s request that Suri be returned to immigration detention while it seeks to deport him, ostensibly over his pro-Palestinian social media posts as well as his father-in-law’s role as a political adviser to Hamas leaders.
