White House Says Biden to Sign Executive Orders On Gun Measures

On Friday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki confirmed that President Joe Biden intends to sign executive orders on gun control. Psaki replied “Yes” in response to a journalist’s question about whether reporters should “be expecting executive orders from the president on gun measures”; however, she said the timing was unclear due to the review process. Psaki said the White House would likely make use of the 23 executive actions to combat gun violence that Biden helped put in place as vice president during the Obama administration. Democratic lawmakers renewed a call for gun control measures in the wake of two deadly shootings in Colorado and Georgia last week. While it's still unclear whether Biden plans to introduce any new gun measure proposals, Biden expressed belief earlier this week that his administration can pass two gun reform bills with a narrow Democratic majority in the Senate. The bills would require background checks to be performed for all gun purchases and transfers and would close a loophole which could allow gun sales without a completed background check.
