Trump's 100-Day Approval Rating Among Worst in Decades, Polls Say
Summary from the AllSides News Team
As President Donald Trump inches closer to his 100th day in office, do voters approve or disapprove of his job so far?
The Numbers: The New York Times (Lean Left bias) conducted an average of recent poll numbers, showing that Trump's approval rating is at 44% and his disapproval rating is at 53%. His approval has dropped among independents, women, and Hispanic Americans. A recent CNN/SSRS poll put his approval rating at 41% and disapproval at 59%, a +18 point disapproval. A 41% approval rating within the first 100 days is the lowest in 80 years. One factor is how voters feel Trump is handling the economy. Trump's approval rating on the economy was 39%, according to CNN, the lowest Trump has ever rated on the economy. Last month, 44% approved of how Trump was handling the economy.
For Context: Trump's approval rating did dip below 41% during his first term; after the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, his approval rating was 34%. By day 100 of his first term, his disapproval rating was +12.
Key Quote: Trump said that the recent New York Times and ABC/Washington Post polls were “FAKE POLLS FROM FAKE NEWS ORGANIZATIONS.”
How The Media Covered It: CNN (Lean Left) quoted those who disapproved of Trump, adding, “The president [is] underwater and sinking across nearly all major issues he’s sought to address.” The New York Post (Lean Right) quoted Trump rather than his critics, noting, “Despite the dour polling news, the president is still pulling higher marks than Democrats in key areas.” The Post acknowledged the downward trajectory of Trump's approval rating but attributed it to tariffs, saying, “The vast majority of Trump’s backers do not appear to have buyer’s remorse.”
