As former President Donald Trump grows closer to securing the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election, analysts across the spectrum are speculating who he may select as his running mate.

Trump’s Words: During a town hall event hosted by Fox News (Right bias) earlier this month, Trump stated, “I know who it’s going to be.” He declined to elaborate, but expressed a willingness to consider selecting a former opponent in the Republican primary.

Primary Opponents? His main opponent in the primary, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, said that being vice president was “off the table.” Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), who suspended his campaign for the nomination in November, did not rule out serving as vice president when asked earlier this month. Trump said it was “unlikely” that he would select Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who suspended his campaign earlier this month. Vivek Ramaswamy, who suspended his campaign earlier this month, endorsed Trump and is also rumored to be a candidate.

Elise Stefanik? Outlets across the spectrum are listing Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) as a potential pick for Trump’s running mate. Stefanik gained national attention late last year for her role in the House Committee on Education & the Workforce’s hearing on anti-semitism on college campuses. Trump reportedly acknowledged the possibility of selecting Stefanik last month, stating, “She’s a killer.” Stefanik, 39, was the first member of congress to endorse Trump for 2024 and is the highest-ranking Republican woman in the House of Representatives.
