Sources with an AllSides Media Bias Rating of Center either do not show much predictable media bias, display a balance of articles with left and right biases, or equally balance left and right perspectives.

Center doesn't mean better! A Center media bias rating does not necessarily mean a source is totally unbiased, neutral, perfectly reasonable, or credible, just as Left and Right don't necessarily mean extreme, wrong, unreasonable, or not credible. Straight Arrow News Achieves AllSides Balance Certification™ for Second Year in a Row Following May 2024 AllSides Media Bias Audit

A May 2024 AllSides Media Bias Audit™ of Straight Arrow News resulted in a rating of Center (+0.04), meaning the outlet met the criteria for AllSides Balance Certification™ for the second year in a row. 

After weighing this data with previous data from a May/June 2023 AllSides Media Bias Audit of SAN that had an overall result of Center (0.36), the current overall AllSides Media Bias Rating™ for SAN is Center (0.17). SAN once again met the criteria for AllSides Balance Certification™.

AllSides Balance Certification™ is awarded to exemplary news media outlets and signifies that an AllSides Media Bias Audit™ of a news source found it issues news reporting that is substantially free from partisan political bias or equally balances left, center, and right perspectives.

The overall Center rating is an average of the following bias reviews conducted in May 2024:

• An AllSides May 2024 Blind Bias Survey of SAN's online, written and video news content that returned a rating of nearly dead Center (-0.03).
• An AllSides May 2024 Editorial Review of SAN's video and written news content that returned a rating of nearly dead Center (+0.1).

Straight Arrow News May 2024 Blind Bias Survey Results

A total of 816 people across the political spectrum took the May 2024 Blind Bias Survey. 

Respondents in all bias groups rated Straight Arrow News as Center, on average. Those who identified as Left and Right rated Straight Arrow News as slightly on the right side of exact center, at 0.36 and 0.43 respectively. Those who identified as Center (-0.40), Lean Right (-0.34), and Lean Left (-0.18) all rated the outlet slightly on the left side of exact center.

Straight Arrow News May 2024 Editorial Review Results

An Editorial Review by a panel of six reviewers on the left, center, and right returned a Center rating (+0.1). The panel was unanimous in issuing a nearly dead Center rating for Straight Arrow News and detected very little bias.

The panel saw almost no bias in Straight Arrow News. Some reviewers flagged word choice bias, slight instances of sensationalism (while others argued there was no sensationalism), and some other minor bias incidents. Overall, any incidents flagged did not represent an overall trend.

AllSides Balance Certification™ is awarded to exemplary news media outlets and signifies that an AllSides Media Bias Audit™ of a news source found it issues news reporting that is substantially free from partisan political bias or equally balances left, center, and right perspectives.

The overall Center rating is an average of the following bias reviews conducted in May and June 2023:

• An AllSides June 2023 Blind Bias Survey of SAN's online, written and video news content that returned a rating of Center (+0.05) for SAN. 
• An AllSides Editorial Review of SAN's video and written news content that returned a rating of Center (+0.67).

Straight Arrow News June 2023 Blind Bias Survey Results

A total of 698 people across the political spectrum took the June 2023 Blind Bias Survey. 

Respondents who self-identified as being Right rated Straight Arrow News as Lean Right, on average (+2.07). Respondents in all other bias categories – Left (0.26), Lean Left (-0.70), Center (-0.64), and Lean Right (-0.74) all rated the outlet as Center, on average.

Note: The box plot represents interquartile range, or the middle 50% of responses. The arrow in the middle represents the weighted average of all responses, after normalization.

Straight Arrow News Editorial Review Results

An Editorial Review by a panel of six reviewers on the left, center, and right returned a Center rating (+0.67) for SAN.

The average of all panelist ratings was Center. Panelists with a Center bias found SAN’s reporting to be Lean Right, but just barely inside that category — the average rating from Center reviewers was +1.1 on the AllSides Media Bias Meter. However, reviewers with biases on the Left and Right found SAN’s reporting to be Center, though on the right side (the average rating was +0.6 from left reviewers and +0.3 from right reviewers).

The panel noted SAN made very clear attempts at balanced news, with balanced story choices of interest to the right and some of interest to the left. Many articles did not contain bias. Word choices were often neutral, and balanced viewpoints were apparent. Most types of bias were not detected or did not represent a trend.
