Trump Raises Nearly $53M in 24 Hours Following Conviction

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign announced Friday that it raised almost $53 million in the 24 hours following his felony conviction.

The Details: One-third of the donors were first-time donors. The total will not be verifiable until the Federal Election Commission releases figures in the coming months. Nearly $35 million was reportedly raised in the first 12 hours after the verdict.

For Context: So far, President Biden has outraised Trump in the 2024 race, though in April, Trump outraised Biden by $25 million. The two campaigns entered May with $84 million and $49 million in cash on hand, respectively. The sum dwarfs the $4 million total Trump raised after he was arraigned in Georgia in 2023 and his mugshot was released.

How The Media Covered It: The Washington Examiner (Lean Right bias) noted that if the Trump campaign’s numbers are accurate, it would “easily” be the most successful 24-hour fundraising period for either candidate this election cycle. The New York Times (Lean Left bias) wrote “the enormity of the sum into proper perspective” and noted that it’s almost as much as the $58 million Trump raised in the latter half of 2023.

Donald J. Trump’s campaign announced on Friday evening that he had raised nearly $53 million in the 24 hours after his felony conviction, shattering online records for Republicans and raking in enough cash to help him close what has been a substantial financial gap with President Biden.

It is hard to put the enormity of the sum into proper perspective, but it would nearly match, in a single day, the $58 million that Mr. Trump’s main fund-raising arm raised online in the last six months of 2023, according to federal...

The campaign for former President Donald Trump said it raised an eye-popping $52.8 million through online donations following Trump’s guilty conviction in his criminal hush money case.

On Friday morning, a little more than 12 hours after the verdict was announced, the campaign announced it had fundraised $34.8 million. The claim from the campaign cannot be verified until the Federal Election Commission releases its report on fundraising numbers.

“The Trump campaign has raised $52.8 million through the online digital fundraising platform,” a statement from the campaign said. “THAT’S MORE THAN $2 MILLION PER HOUR!”
