Is Kamala Harris Losing Support From Minority Voters?

Summary from the AllSides News Team

As the presidential election nears, there has been sustained dialogue about minority voters, which several outlets have reported are trending towards former President Trump.

Marginal Losses: A study from Pew Research Center (Center bias) found the “overwhelming majority of black registered voters support Vice President Kamala Harris” over Trump, but noted that she is currently on pace to receive less of the black vote than President Biden did in 2020. Pew reported that 84% said they would vote for Harris – which is down from the 92% Biden received in 2020 – but also that since Harris replaced Biden, Democrats have improved favorability by 26% with black voters.

Changing Philadelphia: The Philadelphia Inquirer (Lean Left bias) reported that in “deep-blue Philly,” Democrats are losing the most ground in impoverished neighborhoods. The Inquirer found the Democrats’ shrinking working class support to be “consistent across racial groups,” with a direct correlation between how poor a neighborhood is and how far right it’s shifted. The Inquirer noted that despite being “much more Democratic,” working-class black areas “moved right at the same pace that white areas did.” Additionally, Philadelphia’s working-class Latino communities are shifting right at a much higher clip than white and black ones.

Battleground States: An analysis from Just The News (Lean Right bias) highlighted several recent polls that show Trump gaining ground with Latinos. Some of the polls, which came from organizations like NBC News (Lean Left bias), CNN (Lean Left bias), and the Texas Hispanic Policy Foundation, showed Trump gaining with Latinos nationally, especially in battleground states, and a significant improvement with black voters in Texas.

Gabriel Lopez grew up in a family of Democrats in the Kensington neighborhood of deep-blue Philadelphia. So in 2016, the first presidential election he was old enough to vote in, he picked Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump.

But Lopez, now 27, says his views have changed. He switched his registration to Republican this year, and he plans to vote for Trump, who’s running for president a third time.

“Democrats keep saying [Trump] is going to bring down the economy, but he was already president for four years, and taxes were...

Democratic coalition in shambles as Harris bleeding support from key voter blocs
News

Vice President Kamala Harris is struggling to maintain support among the key voting blocs of the Democratic coalition as polling data suggests that former President Donald Trump’s efforts to win over minority voters are succeeding to some degree.

Throughout his political career, Trump has made concerted attempts to flip Hispanic and black voters, traditionally Democratic constituencies, though his 2020 results with those groups only slightly improved upon his 2016 tallies. Now, polling data suggests that he may be poised to gain significant ground in the November contest with both groups,...
