One of the most widely covered stories over the weekend was the Friday meeting between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which the two discussed the prospect of negotiating a settlement over the conflict in Ukraine.
The summit, which took place in Alaska, was no small event, as it marked the first time Putin had visited the United States since 2015, when he attended the United Nations General Assembly and met President Barack Obama. With the two leaders facing mounting pressure to find a resolution, all eyes were on the 49th state and former Russian territory, especially from media outlets across the spectrum that spun out plenty of biased headlines in the days following the event.
Though the leaders didn’t reach an official settlement, several media outlets jumped to conclusions of their own in headlines and ensuing coverage.
Several of the outlets cited below posted multiple pieces of coverage on the summit. These lists are not exhaustive, rather samplings.

Whether Russia or Ukraine and its NATO allies have gained an upper hand as a result of Friday’s meeting is up for debate and could be indefinitely. As media coverage of the conflict since 2022 has been intensely biased, readers, journalists, and politicians alike have been subject to filter bubbles that have fed them narratives depicting, at times, different realities.
Nonetheless, outlets across the spectrum slanted headlines in different directions, generally hinged on their bias towards President Trump and his administration. The wide split in headlines following the summit is a reminder of why it’s important to consume media from all sides of the political spectrum to ensure you’re seeing the full picture.
