This Headline Roundup has been edited to reflect new developments in the story.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers were involved in a shooting that killed one person in Biddeford, Maine on Monday. The shooting was more widely covered by the left than the right.
The Details: Maine House Speaker Ryan Fecteau shared a statement on Facebook saying that a person was killed in the shooting and that local law enforcement are investigating. He said in a later press release, "Our community is shaken by this incident. We are heartbroken that someone lost their life. We deserve answers about why lethal force was used and why an operation was being carried out in our streets." Though authorities have not released identifying information about the deceased, the Maine Immigrants' Rights Coalition said that it was a 26-year-old Colombian man that was killed. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said that the man who was shot was not the target of ICE's warrant.
Witness Accounts: A Biddeford resident told Newsweek (Center bias) said he heard "what sounded like firecrackers" outside his window, and when he went outside to investigate, he said he saw "[federal agents] trying to ram the vehicle to make him stop. The small white vehicle backed up and proceeded down the street toward me, and then they rammed him again, causing the vehicle to turn and head north on Hill Street. And that's when they pulled him out after that." The person pulled out of the card had blood on his head, according to the resident.
For Context: Both Bangor Daily News (Lean Left) and Newsweek highlighted that this shooting came just a week after the fatal shooting of Mexican national Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston, Texas. Bangor Daily noted that this is "at least the 11th fatal shooting involving ICE or U.S. Border Patrol agents since the beginning of the second Trump administration."
Anti-ICE Protests: Fox News (Right) and The National Desk (Right) shared images and videos of protestors outside Sen. Susan Collins' office (R) after the shooting, with one video featuring the protestors chanting "Vote her out."
