SpaceX Rocket Explodes During Flight Test Preparations in Texas

Summary from the AllSides News Team

A Starship rocket from Elon Musk’s SpaceX exploded during preparations for its tenth test flight in Texas late Wednesday night. No injuries were reported.

The Details: SpaceX, which captured the incident on a livestream video, said a “major anomaly” occurred on the test stand. SpaceX stated that all personnel were safe due to a maintained safety clear area and that there are no hazards to surrounding communities.

For Context: The accident occurred at SpaceX’s facility in Starbase, Texas. Starbase was a remote piece of land near the Mexican border that SpaceX used for launches before Musk said in December 2024 that he wanted to officially name the area Starbase. Residents, who included mostly SpaceX employees, approved the measure in May 2025. Starship rockets are reusable, and according to Reason (Center bias), launches cost about $100 million.

Key Quotes: SpaceX wrote on X, “Our Starbase team is actively working to safe the test site and the immediate surrounding area in conjunction with local officials. There are no hazards to residents in surrounding communities, and we ask that individuals do not attempt to approach the area while safing operations continue.” Arely Cantu, who lives about 22 miles east of Starbase, said, “Our whole neighborhood felt it and all the neighbors went outside to see what had happened because it shook all the houses.”

How The Media Covered It: The New York Post (Lean Right) highlighted other recent SpaceX failures. It wrote, “During the ninth test flight in May, the Starship blasted off into orbit but burned up as it fell back into the Earth’s atmosphere. The loss followed a series of back-to-back failures of the seventh and eighth Starships.” The Independent (Lean Left) wrote that the Starship “is the most powerful rocket ever made” and described the explosion as “dramatic.”
