FBI Finds No Evidence Epstein Operated a Sex Trafficking Ring

Summary from the AllSides News Team
The FBI found insufficient evidence Jeffrey Epstein was operating an organized sex trafficking ring, according to internal Justice Department (DOJ) records.
The Details: The FBI memo, dated from 2019 and reviewed by Associated Press (Left bias), determined Epstein's bank records, financial payments, electronic devices and other documents analyzed didn't constitute criminal trafficking. Although investigators discovered evidence of Epstein's personal sexual abuse of women and minors–including 15 to 20 child abuse photos and payments to over 25 models–they concluded there wasn't enough evidence to prove he was trafficking individuals for a network of wealthy or powerful "clients." Investigators also said they didn't locate a "client list" and there was no proof of victims being abused.
For Context: The investigation into Epstein began in 2005 after the parents of a 14-year old girl said she was molested at Epstein's Florida home. Several Epstein victims, including Virginia Giuffre, have accused Epstein of arranging sexual encounters with numerous world leaders and businessmen. According to the FBI memo, those allegations reportedly also couldn't be verified. Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell have been the only two federally prosecuted in the investigation.
How the Media Covered It: ABC News (Lean Left) focused on Giuffre's allegations against Epstein and Maxwell and compared them to findings from the FBI memo. It also outlined the investigation's timeline, mentioning other people close to Epstein who were investigated and almost prosecuted. Just the News (Lean Right) provided short, straight-forward coverage of the report, quoting former US Attorney Maurene Comey saying had evidence existed, the government would've "pursued any leads they generated." Straight Arrow News (Center) mentioned upcoming Congressional hearings on the documents and the DOJ's handling of the release. It also noted Maxwell will testify before the House Oversight Committee.
