Blockbuster ‘Barbenheimer’ Weekend Draws Droves to Theaters
Summary from AllSides News Team
In what has been dubbed “Barbenheimer,” blockbuster movies Barbie and Oppenheimer hit theaters on Friday, resulting in a pop culture frenzy and widespread media coverage.
For Context: Barbie, is a live-action film with feminist themes, framed through the popular children’s toy doll. Oppenheimer chronicles the American creation of the atomic bomb.
Barbenheimer, In That Order: An opinion writer for The Guardian (Lean Left bias) went to see both movies back-to-back and commented on how disorienting it was to see Oppenheimer before Barbie. The writer said Oppenheimer “requires processing,” and being thrust into a theater “populated by dozens of children whose parents didn’t get the memo that the film was… not a fun movie about a toy,” hampered his experience.
A Striking Hollywood: Wired (Center bias) posted an analysis saying Barbenheimer “signals the start of Hollywood’s apocalypse,” referencing the ongoing strikes in the film industry. It noted that the strikes clearly aren’t affecting the massive success of Barbie or Oppenheimer, but as it continues, will result in a “bigger hole” in the industry next summer.
Hang With The Boys: An opinion writer for The Federalist (Right bias) highlighted mental health problems men have been facing lately, chalking them up to the trajectory of Western culture, and highlighted a New York Times (Lean Left bias) piece that also alluded to male loneliness, and need for more socialization with male friends. The writer said men should get together with a group of their “fellas” and go see both movies this weekend.

Barbieheimer Is For The Fellas, No Girls Allowed

Guys, it’s tough out there. From Jordan Peterson to Andrew Tate to Richard Reeves, people across the ideological spectrum agree: men are having an incredibly rough go at it as of late, as our peers continue to drop out, overdose, and kill themselves at a mind-boggling pace.
Some diagnose this cultural decline as the result of stagnating economic conditions — a questionable claim considering these trends continued amid the flourishing Trump economy. Others point to the widespread emancipation of Western men from their thumos and Faustian Spirit (the masculine impulse to sacrifice comfort to pursue greatness)...

‘Barbenheimer’ Signals the Start of Hollywood’s Apocalypse

“BARBENHEIMER”—THE COLLECTIVE CELEBRATION around the release of the Barbie and Oppenheimer movies—has collided with the wedding industrial complex. That’s not a joke. According to a Variety story this week, people are planning on taking their friends and family, prenuptials, to see the two films as a double feature. People who aren’t getting married are planning similar movie-watching marathons. It’s the kind of viral cultural moment marketing teams dream of. It also feels like a sign of the end times.
This sense of dread doesn’t stem from the public’s collective yearning to absorb stories about a Mattel doll and...

I survived the Barbie-Oppenheimer double-bill and I don’t recommend it

Few things have caught the public imagination in recent years quite like the concept of Barbenheimer. When Warner Bros scheduled the release of Barbie to run in direct opposition to that of Oppenheimer, directed by embittered former employee Christopher Nolan, the natural response was to pick a side. Both films were so diametrically opposed, after all, that the competition took on a slightly tribal air. Just who do you stand for? Drama or comedy? Joy or fear? Female empowerment or the death of tens of thousands of Japanese civilians?
But then something bizarre happened....
